ISL Light Server License offers you a possibility of setting up your own ISL Light system running on the server(s) in your company. The core of the ISL Light system - the server application named ISL Conference Proxy is placed on one or more servers in your company. Therefore, all ISL Light remote desktop support sessions run on the Conference Proxy server(s) in your company. Setting up the Server License in your company gives you complete control over the remote desktop support system. On the other hand you should be familiar with network and server administration in order to install and configure the ISL Conference Proxy properly.

Quick Installation Guide describes installation and administration of the ISL Conference Proxy Version 3. In order to start using ISL Light Server License you need to install and configure the ISL Conference Proxy on one or more servers in your company first. Please check server requirements before installing the ISL Conference Proxy. If you have already set up the Server License system in your company and would like to upgrade it, please see the chapter on Upgrading the ISL Conference Proxy.

Please note: If you prefer to use ISL Light as a no-installation user-friendly Hosted Service (ASP Subscription or PayPerUse Coupon), you DO NOT need to install the ISL Conference Proxy.

Server requirements for installing the ISL Conference Proxy

Operating Systems:

• Microsoft Windows 2000
• Microsoft Windows XP
• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

• Linux Kernel 2.4 or higher

Hardware Requirements (minimum):

• INTEL or AMD Processor 1.0 GHz or faster
• 512 MB RAM
• 100 MB Free Disk Space

Internet Connection:

• Minimum: 256 Kbps DSL

There are two main stages in the ISL Conference Proxy installation procedure:

1. Server definition and Server License packet creation on the Web Console (https://www.isllight.com/console).
• Define server and create packet: the ISL Light System will run on a server (Windows or Linux) in your company, so you need to provide the server's IP address or its DNS name. The provided IP address / DNS name will be bound up with the ISL Conference Proxy, the ISL Light Desk and the ISL Light Client.
• Download packet: once you have created a packet with the server's IP address or its DNS name, download all three ISL Light applications (ISL Conference Proxy, ISL Light Desk and ISL Light Client).
2. ISL Conference Proxy installation and configuration.
   • Install ISL Conference Proxy: you should run the installation wizard and install the ISL Conference Proxy on your server.
   • Configure system: you need to configure the ISL Conference Proxy and open a few ports in your firewall.
   • Distribute ISL Light Desk and ISL Light Client: distribute the ISL Light Desk application to operators in your company providing remote support and publish the ISL Light Client application on your website in order to make it available to your clients. You may also publish the following images of the ISL Light Desk and the ISL Light Client applications:

   

ISL Light software consists of three parts: 

• ISL Conference Proxy
• ISL Light Desk
• ISL Light Client 

ISL Light Desk and ISL Light Client are applications used by operators providing remote support (ISL Light Desk) and by end-users getting remote support (ISL Light Client). ISL Conference Proxy is a server application and therefore presents the heart of the system. It takes care of the data transfer between an ISL Light Desk and an ISL Light Client user application. To sum up, all communication between two connected computers is runs on the ISL Conference Proxy.

ISL Light Hosted Service (ASP Subscription and PayPerUse Coupon) is a no-installation 1-click solution, and is therefore appropriate for most companies and individuals with a need to support their clients remotely. As the Hosted Service does not require either installation or configuration of the software in your location or the location of your clients, you can start supporting your clients via ISL Light's secure remote computer control instantly. All ISL Light sessions run on the advanced ISL Grid Network - ISL's massive network of servers worldwide running on the ISL Grid technology. Therefore, the Hosted Service brings you all the benefits of the ISL Grid technology.

On the other hand, you can decide to use the ISL Light Server License buisness model which offers you a possibility of setting up your own ISL Light system running on one or more servers in your company. Therefore, all ISL Light remote desktop support sessions run on the Conference Proxy server(s) in your company. Setting up the Server License in your company gives you complete control over the remote desktop support system. As the basic Server License does not perform on the exclusive ISL Grid technology like the Hosted Service, we now offer GRID License as a corporate remote desktop support solution. GRID License is recommended to those who prefer a system where all remote desktop support sessions are balanced geographically, achieving optimal connection reliability and speed.

Whereas the Hosted Service has practically no technical requirements, the ISL Light Server License has a few. Your company has to have a server and an administrator. The server application named ISL Conference Proxy is installed on your server and the administrator takes care of its performance and upgrades. If you regularly experience a very slow speed of the Hosted Service, you should consider trying the Server License business model. It could result in a 10-20% better speed performance in comparison to the Hosted service. The Server License also offers the possibility to customize the user interface windows for operators and clients. The main reason why our users decide for the Server License is to get full control and privacy over the ISL Light remote desktop support system.
